The brief from our Buderim client was to incorporate into their design a pool, , outdoor lounge
area and firepit by renovating under the existing house and backyard. The design was to
complement the classic “queenslander’ style home but with a modern upgrade. The major
challenge with this project was working with limited backyard space on an extremely sloping
block. Therefore the need for slope stability reports and soil reports were required.
Pool – The pool build was challenging due to the landslide council overlay so the inclusion of
significant footings were required. The pool was built hard on the boundary with a finished
height of 2.4m out of the ground. Included in the concrete construction of the pool shell was
garden beds and stepping stones on entry to the extended beach area for the kids to play. The
feature Stone work was also constructed on the entire boundary wall of the pool shell. The pool
filtration includes Revive mineral pool sanitation system.
Firepit – The firepit area included a curved seat around a centre stonclad fire plinth with corten
firepit insert. The surrounding seating is also clad in natural local stone with a pebble base.
The installation of classic travertine tiles throughout the project tied in well with the existing
home where the use of wamberal stone cladding on block walls surrounding the pool added a
more modern look.
Classic planting of camellias, Jasmine, agapanthus and buxus, again tying in nicely with the
current home.
